The Implementing Sustainable Low and Non-Chemical Development in Small Island Developing States (ISLANDS) programme, funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF), seeks to address the sound management of chemicals and waste in Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and Small Island Developing States (SIDS). This ISLANDS programme covers four (4) geographical regions including the Caribbean, Indian Ocean, Pacific Islands, Atlantic Ocean Islands and is being implemented by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), The Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).
One of the Caribbean projects that the Basel Convention Regional Centre for Training and Technology Transfer for the Caribbean (BCRC-Caribbean) is executing under the GEF ISLANDS Programme is the GEF 10279 project, which involves nine (9) countries – Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Belize, Dominican Republic, Guyana, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago.
As part of the FAO-implemented activities under GEF 10279, the project seeks to develop and deliver a training programme on Consumer Risk Assessments for MRLs for exports and locally consumed agricultural produce tailored for the Caribbean region.
In this regard, the BCRC-Caribbean is seeking to recruit a suitably qualified and experienced individual consultant to conduct a Regional Assessment of the Frameworks for Conducting Consumer Risk Assessments for MRLs in the nine (9) project countries and to subsequently develop a manual on the Development of Consumer Risk Assessments for Setting MRLs in the Caribbean and deliver a regional training programme on same for the Caribbean region.
