National Reporting under the Basel Convention

National Reporting under the Basel Convention

The Basel Convention on the Control of Transboundary Movements of Hazardous Wastes and their Disposal is a Multilateral Environmental Agreement (MEA) with the main objective of protecting human health and the environment against adverse effects caused by hazardous or other wastes which require special consideration. The main provisions of the convention are to reduce the production of hazardous waste, restrict its transboundary movement and act as a regulatory system to permissible transboundary movement.

The Basel Convention Regional Centre for Training and Technology Transfer for the Caribbean (BCRC – Caribbean) is one of fourteen regional centres established to assist parties to the convention with their international obligations under this MEA. One of the core functions of the BCRC – Caribbean is to provide critical training to parties. Annual National Reporting is one of the obligations that member countries must carry out under the convention. To support this the BCRC – Caribbean has developed a training video on national reporting under the Basel Convention. This video can be found on YouTube via the link below.
